A Note from the Publisher:

We celebrate what we love at Joshua Tree Voice, as well as how to care for our community. Sometimes we share what could potentially threaten the things we love. Please take time to read Chris Clarke’s article on the measures California is taking to protect and conserve 1/3 of the state’s landscape. While we applaud the State’s endeavor, they appear to be showing what Clarke calls “a cold shoulder” to our desert lands. Clarke’s reputation in these parts is widely revered as an educated and reasonable voice, and he brings to light concerns for which we, as a publication, feel is our duty to provide a platform.

In this issue (and others to come), we pay special attention to our area’s unique array of recording studios, starting with the world-renowned Rancho De La Luna. These businesses are all run and operated by musicians who have contributed much to our culture. Their personal stories are as fascinating as their craft.

It is festival season! With world-renowned festivals coming to the desert this month, we wanted to shine a light on the Morongo Basin’s own magical festivals: full of music, art, theater, film, and a true sense of love and community.
