Daytime Moon Releases “With the Stars” Video in Honor of Late Bass Player, Daniel Hovis

Joshua Tree’s own pop-punk darlings Daytime Moon today shares the video for their single “With the Stars,” from their latest release You Are the Dusk, I Am the Dawn, released in September 2021.

The video, directed and filmed by Zak Kupcha and Kloe Von Wolf and produced by Circulation Media, weaves live footage of the band’s current lineup, featuring lead guitarist, songwriter, and lead vocalist Brent Simpson; drummer Kevin Patterson; bassist Brandon Simpson (Spankshaft); guitarist Johnny Rojas; and keyboardist Lara Bennett; performing at the Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon festival, with band leader Brent Simpson’s own home videos of bandmate Daniel Hovis, who tragically passed away from unknown causes in October 2022.

Dan played bass in Daytime Moon and co-wrote many songs, including this one, for almost four years. Dan and Brent had been friends since 2004 and he is obviously very missed. Our hearts go out to his family.

Of the “With the Stars video,” Brent Simpson says: “This video is one of the performances we were scheduled to play a month after Dan’s passing. It was really hard to move forward without him—I didn’t even want to play, I felt like I couldn’t. But I remembered having a conversation with Dan when he couldn’t make one of our shows and he told me that he wanted us to keep going no matter what. My brother Brandon stepped in to play bass in Dan’s honor, and we did it. We had his photo on his bass amp and I felt like he was there. I wore his pants. We still have a shrine in my studio. I hope this video honors him because he was such a great dude.”
