Woof Walk 2022 Festival Returns to Pioneertown Saturday, March 26th

Sidelined by the pandemic in 2020, the popular festival fundraiser for the Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter promises a full roster of entertainment, camaraderie, and a wild west auction. The event will serve as a springboard for the launch of the “New Digs for Dogs and Cats,” capital campaign to build new facilities for the no-kill shelter. The Morongo Basin Humane Society is staging the popular festival in the courtyard of the Pioneertown Wild West Theater, located at the east end of Mane Street.

Supporters who register for the dog walk down Mane Street collect donations from friends and family and compete for a top prize of $500 for the most pledge monies collected. Dog walkers also enjoy a festive doggie bandana, hand sewn by the Sew Much Fun local sewing circle. More of these prized bandanas, as well as the popular “Woof” hats, will be available for purchase.

Onsite registration for the Mane Street dog walk begins at 10 a.m. A blessing of the animals will start the walk, followed by pet contests and the Woof Walk parade. Admission to the festival is free. Registration forms can be downloaded online at mbhumanesociety.com/events.

After losing 2020 and 2021 events to the pandemic, Woof Walk 2022 is roaring back in style, packing in even more entertainment. There will be a live auction where bidders wrangle for top prizes, a treasure chest of local and regional vendors, plus the return of the action-packed Marine Dog Demo Team from the 29 Palms Marine Corps Base.

New this year, the festival welcomes a Dog Photo Booth, where a team of professional photographers will create portraits of pets you will always cherish. The Morongo Basin Humane Society was founded in 1972 and became a No-Kill haven for homeless pets in 2005. Support for the programs and operations of the Joshua Tree No-Kill Shelter comes from individual donations and fundraising events. The community’s continued support is key to providing food, shelter, bedding, clean kennels, and medical services for the care, nurturing and eventual adoption of homeless pets in the community.

All those interested in adopting or fostering a shelter pet are invited to review the available animals on the Shelter’s website at mbhu-manesociety.com/available-pets. For appointments and other related matters, please contact the staff during business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, from 11a.m. to 4p.m., at (760) 366-3786.
