Art from the Thorp Family Collection: SIMPLY MODERN

On view in February is “Simply Modern: Art from the Thorp Family Collection.” Paintings, drawings, furniture and art objects, all with a singularly modern vibe, will be on offer. New works by favorite artists, and historical art from the Thorp Family collection will be featured. Susie and Juan Thorp are local creatives who have had close relationships with many artists and musicians in SoCal. Their wide circle informs their generous world-view and perspective.

Juan is a fine artist, sculptor, and painter. His lovely wife Susie runs the Joshua Tree Retreat Center gift shop which she has filled with a tantalizing collection of original works by local Southern California artists and makers, gifts, and collectibles. The couple’s discerning eye informs the collection, which will be on view at the Space Truckin Gallery in Yucca Valley in February

Artists included in the Simply Modern show are Victor Ortega, Larry White, Dee Small, Michael Maasand, John Pacini. Larry White, a high desert resident, renowned artist and woodworker, currently has a retrospective “Equilibrium” now on view at the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for Arts and Crafts in Rancho Cucamonga. From the Thorp Collection works by Fr. Bill Moore SS. CC., Alex Couwenberg, Roland Reiss, James Heuter, Carlos Estrada-Vega, Mary Dessert and Brian Boyer will be on view.
