Featured in the West Wing in February is photography by Paul Ivanushka of Yucca Valley and photography and paintings by Victoria Sebanz of Landers. Ivanushka creates botanical portraits of wildflowers indigenous to the Mojave Desert, channeling Penn, Mapplethorpe, and Mockel to show the plants as the divas of the desert. Sebanz collects leaves and is fascinated by the metamorphosis that occurs when she plays with shadow, shape and perspective at different times of the day. Layers of leaves, leaves falling, each unique imprint becomes healing, the symbol of Earth, of memories made, of dreams to keep.

The East Gallery features oil and acrylic paintings by Susan Frazier of Rancho Mirage. Her first epiphany to being an artist was seeing a Van Gogh exhibit at age 5. She is now inspired by the desert lifestyle, along with Georgia O’Keeffe’s modernism and Agnes Pelton’s transcendentalism, she says, “My best artwork is just now presenting itself to me.”

Twentynine Palms Artists’ Guild members will display a variety of new works in the Members Room this month. The exhibition will be on display at the gallery February 2 to 25, open Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The historic 29 Palms Art Gallery is located at 74055 Cottonwood Drive at the corner of National Park Drive in Twentynine Palms, CA. For more information, visit www.29palmsartgallery.com.
