The Joshua Tree Night Market

The Joshua Tree Night Market started as a once- a-month showcase of local artists and artisans in downtown Joshua Tree. Founders, Bill Gilman, and Raven Sokolis are longtime “Burners” who were inspired to bring the magic of Burning Man and East Jesus to Joshua Tree. Bill, a VFX artist, and Raven, a local powerhouse, wanted to illuminate the night sky with pieces of art. They also wanted to create a space where community and creativity were the main priority. After a trial run in October 2019, the market officially launched June 13, 2020, just as the need for outdoor activities and opportunities for connection began to materialize.

What most people don’t know, is that the market might not have happened if it weren’t for Susan Henry, owner of Zannedelions Boutique. Just days before the launch, the proposed market site fell through. But Bill and Raven had already recruited artists and told the community there would be a market. Walking past Zannedelions on a Tuesday, Bill popped in and asked if he could use the parking lot for a market on Saturday. Susan, a jewelry designer, musician, and recycled glass artist, agreed. She brought her band, Le Jazzanne, and provided the entertainment. Zannedelion’s Boutique and Shops have hosted the market vendors and music ever since. Additionally, a small team has come on board to support the market’s expansion.

The Night Market boasts a handful of core vendors that attend each week. We have also been delighted by the number of new vendors that continue to sign up. Tourists and local community members return week after week to enjoy the music, art, food, and more!

In June 2021 the market transitioned from a once-a-month market to a weekly event. We will be open from 11 am to 4 pm on November 11th and 27th, as well as the first three Saturdays in December. The 2022 schedule will be announced on the website as soon as it is confirmed.
