29 Palms Art Gallery Art Reception Saturday, January 6, 2024

The 29 Palms Art Gallery will host an art reception on Saturday, Jan 6, to celebrate the January exhibition. The gallery will be open all day, and reception hospitality will be served on the gallery patio from 4-6 p.m. The public is invited to attend and meet the artists. Admission is free.

Featured in the West Wing in January is “Animal | Vegetable | Mineral” by Doug Blanc and Jillian Sandell, of Joshua Tree. They investigate what the desert can teach us when we pay attention to its natural artifacts – the animal bones and plant skeletons, the wildlife tracks and seemingly solid rocks. Blanc invites desert dwellers to consider the reverberating impacts of development. by focusing on the spaces within the cavities of a cholla cactus skeleton or between individual creosote branches, Sandell considers what happens when we pause and examine the spaces in-between and around us.

The East Gallery features paintings and collages by Wonder Valley artist Chris Carraher in “With Gesture and Color,” She believes gesture is a gift of the body, and whether bold and sweeping, cramped or tangled, there is a message in all of it. Comparatively, color is a gift of the gods – from the strength and clarity of black and white to the dazzle and infinite dimension of pure color, its power and blessing should not be stinted. Her works range stylistically from non-objective to calligraphic to abstracted symbolism and figuration.

Artists’ Guild members will display a variety of new works in the Members Room. The exhibition will be on display at the gallery January 4 to 29, open Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
